Candle Care
Even burning, the Secrets to an splendid burning candle…
Tips for your Candle:
Let Me Burn!!!
The first burn sets up the structure for your candles life. It changes the chemical structure of the wax to promote an even burn.
- Light the candle and allow it to burn out to just before the edge. (Approx first burntime: Small 2 Hours. Medium, Large & Giant 5 Hours)
- Extinguish the flame. Allow the melted wax to harden over night.
This process forms a lip that will act as a barrier, stopping wax dribbling down the side of your candle for future burns. When next lighting the candle it will burn out to this lip, then begin to burn down. The lip will act as a barrier holding the melted wax like a cup.
Keep Me Trimmed!!!
Wick Trimming is very important. It promotes an even burn, a steady flame and limits sooting. Regular wick trimming will increase your candles lifetime noticeably. 2-3mm is a good length wick.
I Don't like Draughts!
Draughts will decrease burntime, cause uneven burning & cause smoking. When your candle is burning at premium efficiency, the flame will not flicker, be in the shape of a teardrop and will not smoke.
Love Me Hug Me...
As your candle melts down, the wax barrier will naturally want to fall away from the wick. This is not good for maximising hours. The wax is your fuel. After each burn gently cup the outside barrier, gently pushing it in towards the wick. This supports the wall for later burns.
I'm So Cool...
Place your candle in the fridge prior to burning. Lowering the core temperature of the candle wax before a burn will increase your candles hours significantly, especially in our hot Aussie summers.
Don't Waste Me
Open windows and doors will allow scent to escape, keep this in mind when wanting more scent. Also try lighting your candle for 30 minutes before going into the desired room. When you walk in you will be delighted with the aroma of the candle.
Medium, Large & Giant enjoy a 4-6 hour burntime.
Small enjoys a 2-3 Hour burntime.
Candle Science:
Toxic Paraffin??? Myth Busted!!!
Paraffin wax is NOT toxic, harmful to your health, or harmful to the environment as some other Businesses would have you believe...
There is a large amount of misinformation on the Internet & being supplied by some businesses, which is not based on scientific fact or evidence. The following down loadable files are a comprehensive, independent scientific study, into ALL TYPES OF WAXES. The Study finds the combustion by-products of all candle waxes are virtually identical in composition & quantity… far below any applicable indoor air standards. So breath easy. We hand pour 1000+ candles & lanterns a week. We don’t expose ourselves or our customers to any harmful ingredients.
‘Okometric Summary’ Link
We use paraffin wax because we are artists. We love the sculptures, colours, effects and textures in our candles, only possible with the use paraffin wax. We love it!
Lead Wicks!!! arrhhhh
CANDLES WITH LEAD WICK HAVE BEEN BANNED IN AUSTRALIA SINCE 2002. Lead is a very dangerous substance! Lead poisoning can lead to hearing loss, respiratory problems, memory loss & nerve disorders. Lead wicks were a result of cheap imports from China. We recommend purchasing Australian made candles. You get a much higher quality candle and keep Aussies employed. If you do come across a lead wick in your candle adventures please report it to the ACCC.
Smokin Candles Baby
The smoke coming off your candle occasionally is actually burnt cotton on the end of your wick. You can limit the smoking by keeping the wick trimmed. 2-3mm is a good length. Where there is fire there is smoke. Claims of smokeless candles is more precarious marketing then truth.
